English in adults classes

English is an important area for students all around the world, it means a key element for their development, specially in the academic field. For adult students learning English is a challange that they have to overcome. So many fears, shame, lack of interest represent a burden they have to carry with them. Adults need to learn the language because it is a real opportunity to do great things, to get a promotion at work, to travel abroad, to settle down in other country, to start their own business, etc. This is challange we as EFL teachers must take.

Hi Christian,

Cool template. I like it. It's funky!

Now that you have started it is much easier. Bloging is all about communicating with others! ;-)

Hi Christian,

that was an excellent kick-off, congratulations! This is a great topic and one I'm particularly interested in, as all my students are adults with various levels of proficiency. There are lots of interesting topics to discuss and I'm sure you won't feel like you don't know what to blog about! :-)

Um abraço,
Mônica

Hi Christian
Can you believe some of my colleagues at work believe adults are not into technology? This blog will surely be a place to exchange ideas on how to bring more and more adult learners to the blogosphere. They can profit so much from blogs!

Hi Christian, I had written a long comment and oopphhsss, something happened when I tried to preview it ;-(

Anyway, I was telling you that adult learners have assets they are not aware of. And in your case and mine, for example, they know many cognate words which are the same in Spanish and English and which make up a large percentage of academic registers.

I hope to keep coming here and read more about your thoughts.

Warm regards from cool Caracas,
Berta

Hello Christian,

You are right. It is sometimes complicated for adults to start an English course. Making mistakes and getting corrected is not always easy for them, especially if they have had their primary and secondary education in very strict schools. So your idea for this blog is very important for us to discuss.
Take a look at my blog where we are talking about teachers' beliefs and the ideal classroom environment.

Hi Christian. I wanted to respond to your 1/26/08 post about curriculum but I couldn't figure out where the "Post a comment" link was!
I think the best teachers use a curriculum for a guide, like a skeleton. The body of the content must come from responding to the learner's needs and good, responsive instruction.
I best you will soon be using blogs with your students:) Way to go!
